Welcome to SC Psychology, a Clinical Psychology service based in the North West of England offering a broad service from assessment to training and supervision. Find out more here, and get in touch if you have any questions or would like to arrange an appointment.
I work alongside my psychiatry colleague to provide lifespan neurodevelopmental assessment. This includes assessment of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
All assessment is in-line with the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, (NICE) and is completed via a mixture of online and face to face appointments.
Face to face appointments take place in Preston and occasionally Bury.
Assessment can be self-funded, or covered by insurance such as BUPA depending on your policy cover.
I offer online consultation to parents and carers (this includes birth parents, adoptive parents, and special guardians). This is space to think psychologically about your child. Consultation can be a useful tool to develop new understanding of your child and to reflect on the role you can/do take in supporting your child’s emotional well-being.
Consultations can be stand-alone sessions if you are unsure what level of support you require. However, you are welcome to book as many consultations as you feel would be helpful in meeting your child/children’s emotional needs.
At the end of each consultation you are provided with a written summary of the conversation and any recommendations that have been identified.
Relationship building with hard to reach (and teach) children can be rewarding and simultaneously challenging. Video Interactive Guidance is a fantastic short-term, strengths based approach that aims to identify what is working well in interactions, and how to build on this further. In an educational context VIG can help facilitate classroom relationships that support a child to engage in educational processes.
Clinical Psychology consultation in an educational setting focuses on developing a psychological understanding of difficulties being observed. Associated recommendations are informed by this formulation and have therapeutic emphasis, for example attachment based support strategies.
I offer reflective practice space that focuses on the well-being of school staff who are working in contexts where children and young people are presenting with increasing needs around neurodevelopment and mental health. This is distinct from training (which might also be relevant) and focused on fostering emotional resilience in the workforce
I have completed advanced training in clinical supervision and have experience supervising trainee clinical psychologists qualified clinical psychologists and non-psychology professionals (including social workers, nurses, doctors). I am registered with the British Psychological Register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors (RAPPS).
In my independent practice I offer ad hoc and regular supervision to professionals working in the field of clinical psychology or psychological therapies.
I use a range of models in order to facilitate learning and reflection on clinical and professional practice (primarily Kolb and Shohet and Hawkins). Where relevant I integrate Video Interactive Guidance (VIG) into supervision, which can offer a rich learning opportunity.
Currently I primarily deliver supervision online. The option of face to face is possible for clinicians based in the North West of England.
I deliver a range of psychoeducational training packages and workshops for multi-agency professionals and residential care homes. All training can be tailored to individual or group needs. It is also possible to commission bespoke training packages/workshops, written according to your specific requirements.
Example topics include:
- Anxiety in children and young people (How it presents across contexts and how systems can address and manage anxiety)
- Applications of attachment in an educational context
- Applications of attachment: making connections in care settings (aimed at children’s homes, foster carers)
- Parenting children who have encountered developmental trauma
- Understanding and supporting children’s emotional well-being when neurodiversity is present
- Understanding Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Understanding Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
- Understanding and managing self-harm
I offer half-day and full day events. There is also the option of a series of events over weeks/months.
I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and British Psychological Society (BPS). I hold further memberships with the Association of Video Interactive Guidance (AVIG) and Theraplay® UK. I work within the NHS and independently.
I specialise in working with children and young people, their families and the wider system around a child (for example, schools, social workers, youth workers). I believe in the power of relationships, and that moments of connection have huge healing power. I bring this belief into all aspects of the work that I do, from assessment to therapy, consultation and supervision.
I am experienced in a range of assessments including cognitive assessment and more specialist assessment including Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Therapeutically I am experienced in a range of therapies, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Theraplay® and Video Interactive Guidance (VIG). I am informed by these therapies in my individual and family work, consultation and also clinical supervision of others.
I am active in the education of future Clinical Psychologists; I work closely with North West training programmes, in particular the University of Manchester where I am the External Coordinator for the Child teaching module. I also teach on the programme. Clinical Psychologists are research practitioners and I remain involved with research and continue to publish. My area of interest is early intervention in anxiety based difficulties in childhood using parent-led approaches.
Please contact me for a comprehensive list of fees.
Neurodevelopmental assessment costs £110 per session. As a guide, typically assessment of Autism Spectrum Disorder takes four sessions.
Supervision and reflective group practice costs £90 per hour.
I am registered with BUPA and therefore can accept clients with BUPA insurance. Please check your policy covers mental health and be aware of any excess on your policy.
Please reach us at info@scpsychology.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.
All assessment that I offer is in-line with NICE guidelines and includes gold standard assessment tools. A GP would likely accept private diagnosis, as would your child’s school. It is at the discretion of your local children’s mental health service (I.e. CAMHS) as to whether they accept diagnoses made privately. You may wish to speak to your local service regarding this prior to seeking private assessment.
Psychologists hold a doctoral degree in psychology and provide therapy and counseling services. Psychiatrists hold a medical degree and are trained to diagnose and treat mental health disorders with medications, in addition to providing therapy.
We understand that life can get in the way of scheduled appointments. We ask that you provide us with at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Otherwise, you will be charged for the session.
